It snowed again this morning. Just enough to leave everything glistening when the snow came out a short time ago.
Last Christmas I was recovering from surgery on December 4, 2023, and not about to get out much at all in the days before Christmas. What a difference a year makes…
In the past few days my daughter and I have been very busy running errands and preparing for Christmas. We’ve been to the mall, and the local shops on Saturday and Sunday and then we were out shopping yesterday for our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinners. Needless to say braving the stores in the last few days before Christmas can be a bit much.
This afternoon we’ll be stopping by my cousin’s fish market to pick up our flounder for our baked flounder Christmas Eve dinner this evening. This afternoon we’ll be baking pies together before we prepare tonight’s dinner. It’s Christmas for three this year — me, my daughter and her very wonderful sweetheart - the fun time together starts in just an hour! She’s a lucky young lady to have such a special young man in her life. Me, I am perpetually single, it seems. It’s been a while since I had a special someone to celebrate the holidays with.
I am sharing this post from last Christmas this afternoon, because the memory of my Christmas morning blessing made me smile and I think it will make you, my friends and readers here, smile too…
Merry Christmas Beautiful People!
I slept in this morning, I needed it.
Up later then normal, I walked into the kitchen, opened the blinds and watched an Eastern Bluebird fly into the bare branch of the tree outside of my kitchen window. I instantly smiled… The Bluebird of Happiness. What a lovely Christmas Blessing, I thought.
I watched it fly off, around the back of the house and head south. I thanked it for stopping by to wish me Merry Christmas.
A few moments later I saw something move in my gardens. And then I noticed there were quite a few birds intently picking at all of the garden stems and stalks, specifically left up to feed the birds. I realized they were Goldfinch and in counting them, there were about 20 or more.
They stayed in the gardens for quite a while. I finally went for the camera, took a few pics through the backdoor window and then attempted to open the door to take more photos, but of course, the door scared them off. The photo below is from last Fall when Goldfinch were foraging in my garden…
What a gift from nature for me this Christmas Day. I am grateful.

Hi Pamela,
Sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas this year, and it's so nice that you and your daughter are so close. And I'm so glad this holiday was better for you than the one that preceded it.
Merry Christmas! What a gorgeous way to introduce the Christmas by shopping with your daughter and preparing a meal for you to have together. I love the way you write about the birds and their sound. I wrote a Christmas post about my walk and sights and forgot to mention that as I started my walk, I past a chapel where there was so much bird song, in the cold evening. I thought it was from a mobile phone. But realise it was actual birds in the tree branches singing. Don't understand why. It was dark, cold... but it made the evening so much more beautiful.
