I am switching things up today with some abstract photography.
Today’s post is a repost from last December when I had all of 350 subscribers here at Words and Pictures by Pamela Leavey, so chances are not too many of you have seen this post before. I did edit the post and I have add three newer abstract photos at the end of the post which I took in July.
I took the first four photos a few years ago when I was taking a photography class while working on my B.A. in Digital Communications and Creative Writing at UMass Amherst. Lucky for me the photography class fit nicely into my major and I was finally able to learn how to use an SLR camera.
I tend to stick to realism in my photography.
If you are a free or paid subscriber, you will be accustomed to seeing a lot of nature photography from me - flower portraits, boat portraits, landscapes and seascapes, some wildlife and some occasional street photography. My photography tends to reflect what is around me and the things that I love. I live in a fairly rural area in coastal Massachusetts on the New Hampshire border.
These photos were a fun exercise in messing with the camera settings and moving the camera around while taking photos of a couple of cars driving on a dark country street on a cold winter’s evening with some snow on the ground.
When I was much younger, in high school actually, I enjoyed painting and my favorite class was art. I had a great art teacher who fostered my love for all sorts of art and that eventually led me to photography. I keep promising myself to get back to painting and I have been wanting to try my hand at abstracts. Last winter I acquired some acrylic and oil paints, as well as some acrylic mediums and canvases but I never got around to playing with them. I want to finally start this new creative whim after the new year. I said that last year. I hope it works out for 2025!
Moving into the warmer season, I like this abstract photo that was taken along the Merrimack River in Newburyport, Massachusetts at the Waterfront Park in August 2022. The boat was motoring up river when I took the photo.
If you enjoyed this post and the photography, I hope you will chime in and leave a comment and share this post with your friends and on your socials!
