I remember visiting South Hampton in the late 70’s. Beautiful beach there.

Thank you,Pamela! I felt like I was walking with you, smelling the salt air and seaweed. Alas, my home in Indiana is landlocked.

Thank you for your selective photography and for not subjecting us to the architectural disasters occupying the dunes…

JB, Some of the architectural disasters on the dunes took a beating over the winter. In fact the area where we access the beach to walk was one the hardest hit areas of Salisbury beach last winter.

JB, I did not realize you know the area. Or maybe I did and it slipped my mind.

I used to live near Florida’s east coast. Every weekend I would check the tide charts and make my walking plans. Your pictures make me homesick but in a good way. Good memories. Thank you.

Carol, the tide chart is such an important facet of beach walking. Hide tide walks are just not as good!

Thanks Pamela and I do like the weather comparison. The latter images with the cloudy skies do have a certai ncharm to them as well. I especially like the second last image with the cloudy skies and the lone person in a chair on the beach. This one says to me: 'Farewell Summer 2024..'

Thanks Neil. The guy in the chair was there both days. On the clear day he was sitting farther away from the water, but he is in one photo. Totally farewell to summer, but hello to nice long walks on the beach with out a lot of people there!

Footnote steps in tidal flat photo prints I’m my morning late wake up mind the kites reach high in the wind blown sails on a string. I wonder the person in reverie in lawn chair watching the waves swirl around the feet. Then I must ask. Do you ever find sand dollars in low tide?

No sand dollar at this beach I need to go over to Plum Island to look for those. Not much of anything good ever turns up on Salisbury Beach.

Ahhh! Late August/early September beach days on the MA north shore. The flies and the tourists are gone. The air is warm and less humid. Perfection!!

Pamela, yours posts from your neck of coastal New England make me long for walks near my former home along countless beaches along the south shores of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, as well as Narragansett and Buzzards Bays.

Thank you Frederick. I don't really know that area well. I've heard it's lovely.

I am struck by all the footprints left behind on the empty beach. The abandoned yellow pail.

Thank you John. I am glad you enjoyed the photos. Looking them them today, I noticed all the foot prints and wondered where they all came from! The beach was quite empty.

Thank you Susie! I have never been lived farther from the ocean than an hour. However, I could love living in in France and not being by the sea!

Pamela, thank you for such wonderful photos and text! I love seeing the countless footprints in the sand. Also, could the sky be any more blue? The overcast scenes are also beautiful, with the clouds being so interesting. Walking in nature is special, indeed. Great post.

Hi Beth, I am so happy that you enjoyed this post. Someone else brought up the footprints in the sand. There weren’t many people on this beach, and there were so many footprints! Both days were lovely, the blue sky day and the cloudy. Perfect!
