I once rode about in a helicopter, and we were just above red tails as they rode the air currents. The red tail showed perfectly seen from above. Your photos are full of life and light.
Danny, I have never been in a copter and would have never wanted to until I read your comment. To be able to look down on hawks aor other birds from a copter would be so cool! Thank you!
Hey - Pamela, it was Superbowl, right, the first American Eagle 🦅 and then Donald JR went to the field to play with a marvelous eagle and now Substack has a news office somewhere=9
Lisa, Apparently Substack does have a news office somewhere. I saw that and I am still reading the NYT and the WaPo independent journalists all get their news from legacy journalist. That's my thoughts. :)
Beautiful photography and poetry. Thank you, Pamela. I really like the hawk framed with the branches combined with the lines of the poem, it draws me in.
Truly Phenomenal, many hawks here on the farm & all around, I was explaining to some early 20s WWOOFers the difference between the juvenile Hawk cries & the adult responses. My phone camera never does the Hawks Beauty any justice🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🥰🥰
Beautiful words and photos…. Hawks are awesome to watch, floating effortlessly above..looking for prey…I saw a hawk dive bomb a mouse and fly back skyward with it in its claws…I was about 15 feet way…in my car..waiting for a red light. The hapless mouse was in the grassy median. Double amazing to see nature, up close in such an unlikely environment… no camera, but I forever have it in my brain files!
Lynn, Thank you. I love watching them hunt and have seen them do things like grab a critter while I am in my car. I’ve also been out in the local wildlife refuge and taken photos os a couple of hawks with their prey on the ground. Kind of gnarly but also fascinating.
Incredible photos Pamela! Often when I receive your posts, I see photos and think Wow, I wish I had taken that! These are an especially wow collection due the huge amount of time I have spent trying to capture the Sparrow Hawk nesting in my gable end, with absolutely no luck except at ridiculous distances... she is just too fast and too wary of me! Have a good week lovely, I am playing catch up again - I haven't even had time to write a post this week! xx
Susie, Hawks, like all birds can be incredibly challenging to photograph. Sometime birds seem less skittish than others for some reason. I have often quickly scared my subjects off. I do think it is all a matter of timing and patience. And I also tend to talk to them with a soft, sweet voice when I am lucky enough to find them “posing.” I wonder if they might take pity on the strange creature muttering to them! Keep trying. The Sparrow Hawk will pose for you. I am sure of it. I too have been playing catch up. I think there’s too much happening and concentration is shot for many. Sending hugs for a good week! xoxo
Gorgeous photos and poem! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you Writer Pilgrim!!

Huh? So, that “journalist” :)
All I get around the house are wrens.
Paul, I would love some wrens where I am, or let me amend that to wherever I am moving to next!
Wonderful poem and hawk photos, Pamela. The hawk's eye in the second photo is so lovely and clear.
Thank you James. That hawk had one stunning eye and one that was cloudy. I ran into him again in 2019. I wonder if he's still around at the Refuge.
amazing photos Pamela and a lovely poem too
Thank you so much Jason. I'm so happy you enjoyed both.
Thank you for sharing this poem and images, Pamela. Quite a stunning bird and I like their look of intensity.
Neil, Absolutely a intense young hawk. Well known down at the Refuge.

Amazing images you captured.
Thank so much Monica. I am so glad you enjoyed!

Pamela, I love this poem, complemented by powerful pictures of this beautiful hawk. Gorgeous.
I love the entire poem, but these lines are stunning:
"and fed me
seeds
of enlightenment."
Lovely, Keep writing
Thank you so much!

Hawks are healing. And ever since my Dad died in 2021, a hawk is my Dad saying hello.
Hawks are healing. I think that your dad is saying hello through the hawks. Yes.
